The Tall Man — find nine pages in a dark forest
You're alone in a dark forest. You need to find nine illustrated pages before the tall figure roaming the same woods catches up to you. There's no weapon and no one to fight. All you have is a flashlight, and the battery is running down. Clap Clap Nightmare makes the same bet on light as your only resource, except there it's an old house and handclaps instead of a forest and a battery.
Why you can't keep the flashlight on
Light reveals pages and paths, but there is no recharge in the game. Keep the flashlight on all the time, and you'll be left in the dark right when finding things gets hardest. Turn it off, and you risk walking straight into the stalker. That makes the game all about short bursts of light: check the area, look over the path, switch it off.
Every page you find makes the game more dangerous
The difficulty ramps up within a single run, not between levels. The more pages you collect, the more active the Tall Man becomes and the denser the sound gets. The last two or three pages are noticeably harder to find than the first ones, because there's no time left for careful searching.
You'll be searching among pine trees, in the fog, by rusted cars, ruined buildings, and an old cemetery. There's also a setup: a missing brother and a broken bike near the tunnel. Nobody tells the story to you; you piece it together from what you come across along the way. Same first-person view, but with puzzles and traps instead of an open forest, in The Warlock's Prisoner.
Tips for getting through it: memorize standout buildings, or you'll easily end up circling the same area; search buildings in order so you don't check the same place twice; save your sprint, because you'll need it when you meet him. When the Tall Man appears, turn away and put distance between you and him instead of staring.
