Word Cross — a crossword puzzle you fill with words from a shared set of letters
At the bottom of the screen, you get a handful of letters. Drag across them with your mouse or finger to build a word. If the word fits, it drops straight into the empty crossword slots above. The level is complete when every square is filled. Each level uses one letter set, so the whole challenge is spotting which words can be made from it. Words Of Wonders works the same way.
Extra words earn coins
You can often make words that aren’t part of the grid. The game still accepts them and rewards you with coins. You need coins for hints: a hint reveals one letter in the grid. Along with the standard hint, there’s a magnifier and a firecracker — these boosters reveal more at once. Another word-building game based on a limited letter set is Word Solitaire.
No timer
There’s no time limit on a level, and you can’t lose. You can sit on one board for as long as you want and keep shuffling until the letter order gives you the answer. The difficulty only comes from the words: the further you go through the 6,000-level catalog, the more often you run into rare 4–7 letter words. The built-in dictionary shows the meaning of each word you find.
